First, I’d like to point out that Brexit, Frexit Italexit and Calexit are some of the stupidest buzzwords I’ve heard in a long time. The infinite flexibility of the English language and this is what they come up with? Almost as annoying as YOLO. Just saying. Right then, on with the post.
Many of you who follow politics are aware at how outraged California is over the United States presidential election. While Hillary technically received the most votes (thanks to California), Donald won the Electoral College. Now, there’s a push by several on the west coast to secede from the United States of America, and this movement seems to have some traction. Since the election, their support has more than tripled in support, and the Yes California citizen’s initiative will be on a 2018 ballot which, if passed, would call for a special election for Californians to vote for or against the independence of California from the United States.
It is about California taking its place in the world, standing as an equal among nations. We believe in two fundamental truths: (1) California exerts a positive influence on the rest of the world, and (2) California could do more good as an independent country than it can do as a just a U.S. state.
Their website makes several good points, one of which is that their economy rivals countries, not just other states.
One snag, however, is that they’re dependent on the rest of the country for their water supply. While much of California’s water comes from snow and rain, the Colorado River still funnels a LOT of water into drought-stricken areas of California.
Do you think this will end up like Texas’s multiple threats to leave the USA, or does this one actually have teeth? I’m interested to see how this plays out!
